Check where your boat lands

Ask which Penida harbour the boat uses before paying. Send the ticket and arrival pin to your driver or hotel. See the harbour guide and operator comparison.

From east Bali, or for Sampalan and Batununggul stays, compare Kusamba to Sampalan.

Coming from your hotel in Bali? See when to leave Uluwatu or Jimbaran, Canggu, Seminyak or Kuta, Ubud, or the airport and Nusa Dua.

Sanur to Nusa Penida boat times

We checked these timetables on each operator’s own website on 10 October 2026. All times are Bali time (WITA). Weather and the harbour master can change or cancel sailings, so reconfirm your boat the day before.

Booking sites sometimes show older times for the same boats. For example, some resellers list El Rey at 08:15 and 11:45. Trust the time on your own ticket and the operator’s message on the day.

Day trip: take a 07:30 or 08:00 boat. All four operators have a 17:00 boat back from Penida, but plan for an earlier one so a late car or a full boat doesn’t strand you.

Arriving to stay: an early afternoon boat (13:30 to 15:30) lets you check in before dark.

What each operator includes

  • El Rey: includes a free hotel transfer to Sanur harbour from one address in Sanur, Kuta/Legian, Seminyak, Jimbaran or Ubud. Give the address when you book; changes need 24 hours’ notice. Each passenger can bring up to 2 bags with a combined 25 kg. Cancelling less than 48 hours before travel gets no refund.
  • Maruti Express: check in at the Maruti Group office in Sanur first to exchange your voucher, then walk to the harbour. Check-in opens 90 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before. Its website shows IDR 200,000 one way for an adult (all passports) and an optional ticket with a shuttle. On Penida you board at Maruti’s private port.
  • Waruna Darma: IDR 150,000 one way for an adult, IDR 100,000 for children aged 3 to 10, and free for infants. Check in at least 30 minutes before departure and bring ID that matches the booking name. There’s no hotel pickup, and cancellations within 24 hours aren’t refunded.

The island levy isn’t part of the boat fare. Maruti says this directly, so buy it separately. See the levy and attraction fees guide.

How long does the trip take?

Operators list 30 to 45 minutes on the water. Rough seas can make it longer.

Add your Bali drive, check-in, boarding, bag collection and hotel transfer on Penida. Leave a night in Bali before an international flight.

Before you buy the ticket

Confirm the date and sailing, Sanur check-in pin and deadline, Penida arrival harbour, luggage allowance and hotel transfer. Ask about boarding help if you need it.

Read the change and weather-cancellation terms. Save the ticket and operator contact offline, and check for messages before leaving.

Day trip or overnight arrival

For a day trip, take an early boat and choose a west or east outing. Leave time for the drive back and check-in.

For a 3D2N stay, arrive in the afternoon, check in and enjoy dinner. You’ll have a full day on the island the next morning. Compare day trip and overnight stays and where to stay.

Check traffic and sea conditions

Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made Surya reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.

During that period, Visit Penida strongly advises against a day trip with a tight return boat. An east-side drive along the north coast may meet both fuel queues. Read the dated report.

Staying near Diamond Beach? Book both transfers early using the east-hotel guide.

Check the BMKG forecast and operator messages before departure. Clear skies at Sanur don’t tell you how the sea will be halfway across.
