Check which harbour your boat uses
Nusa Penida has several arrival points. Ask for the exact Bali departure terminal and Penida arrival pin before paying, then send them to your driver. A booking labelled only “Nusa Penida harbour” isn’t enough.
The main arrival areas
Toyapakeh and the northwest coast
Banjar Nyuh and nearby Toyapakeh terminals are convenient for Toyapakeh, Ped, Crystal Bay and west-side sightseeing. The operator may use its own landing point, so get the exact pin.
Buyuk and Sampalan
Buyuk and Sampalan are farther east along the north coast. They suit Batununggul and east-side stays. Check which terminal your operator uses.
Banjar Nyuh or Sampalan?
Banjar Nyuh usually works well for a Sanur crossing and a west-side hotel. Sampalan works well for the shorter Kusamba crossing and a stay in Batununggul.
Made regularly takes Kusamba to Sampalan and likes the shorter sea journey. Choose the harbour that makes the drive to your hotel easier.
Vehicle-ferry facilities
Bringing a vehicle? Check the loading terminal, tickets and required documents with the ferry operator. Passenger fast boats and vehicle ferries use different boarding arrangements.
Pickup checklist
- Send the boat company, date, arrival pin and your contact number to the driver.
- Agree where you’ll meet after collecting your bags.
- Mention luggage, children and any boarding or walking help you need.
- Save your hotel pin offline.
- Tell the driver if the boat changes after check-in.
Choose a nearby first stop
A northwest arrival is useful for Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Crystal Bay. Sampalan is farther east. Choose fewer stops so you spend more time at them.
If you’re staying overnight, check in first and keep arrival day light. Compare Ped, Batununggul and Crystal Bay.
Departing Penida
Your return boat may use a different terminal. Check the ticket again and leave time to find the operator’s desk. Stay a night in Bali before an international flight.
Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.
An east-side transfer along the north coast may meet both queues. Agree an earlier pickup with your driver. Read the dated traffic report and getting-around guide.

- Visit Penida owner update on fuel queues and harbour departure timing
Confirmed on 4 October 2026 long Pertamina queues in Banjar Nyuh and Ped and recommends Sakti/Crystal Bay for quieter stays with easier driver arrangements during the 4 to 7 October advisory. For a boat back to Bali from Banjar Nyuh, leave accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, and earlier when the journey, queues or check-in require it. Conditions after 7 October are unconfirmed by that report.
