More than a day trip
Nusa Penida Beaches
Stay at least 3D2N. Choose a beach day, a headland walk or a cliff view, with time to enjoy the island.
- Easier beach day
- Crystal Bay
- Headland walk
- Pandan from Crystal Bay
- Cliffs and stairs
- Give the east its own day
Choose your beach day
Sand, stairs or a view from above
Start with the experience you want. A viewpoint visit leaves more time and energy than a full beach descent.
An easier beach day
Crystal Bay for beach time and sunset
Reach the sand without a cliff staircase, or walk towards Pandan while it is light.

West-coast walks and coves
Pandan and Puyung are walking outings from Crystal Bay. Gamat is a separate land visit, while Tembeling adds forest, pools and a rocky coast.
Pandan Beach
About 10 minutes to the Crystal Bay viewpoint and 20 minutes to Pandan, from Made Bhisma's walking notes.
Puyung Beach
A further cove beyond Pandan, reached over another headland. Carry supplies and give the return walk plenty of daylight.

A separate southeast beach day
Suwehan needs time for the road, stairs and return climb. Keep another demanding beach descent optional.

North-coast beach breaks
Choose a shorter shore visit while staying or travelling near the north-coast towns. Confirm the beach entrance and water conditions.
Plan the way back first
Beach stairs mean a climb out after the heat and beach time. Headland walks need daylight for the return. Agree on your pickup before leaving the car, and keep water for the uphill section.
Compare island transport and places to stay so a beach day has room for a rest. Broken Beach is a coastal viewpoint, rather than a beach you walk down to.
Check the sea at the beach
Ask about waves, currents and boats before entering the water. Easy road access and a calm-looking photograph don't establish safe swimming. Check the BMKG marine forecast before setting off, then follow local warnings.
For a guided reef visit, use the snorkeling guides. A boat stop and a land beach visit can have different access and pickup arrangements.
Before you choose
Planning your beach day
Which beach avoids a long cliff staircase? Answer
Crystal Bay is the more straightforward beach choice. Confirm the drop-off and actual path if anyone in your group needs help with sand or uneven ground.
How long is the Pandan walk? Answer
Made Bhisma reports about 10 minutes from Crystal Bay to the upper viewpoint and about 20 minutes to Pandan Beach, one way. Your pace and trail conditions affect the time. The report was received on 8 October 2026.
Can I combine Atuh and Diamond? Answer
Yes. See the views and choose one beach descent if you want a less tiring east-coast day. Keep enough energy and time for the climb back.
Does a beach photograph show that swimming is safe? Answer
No. It shows a particular moment. Ask about the current sea, follow local warnings and enjoy the shore if conditions are unsuitable.
