Before you go
Getting there and beach conditions
We used the sources below. We haven't recorded an on-site check, so ask locally about current access and facilities.
What to expect
Suwehan is a pale beach below tall limestone cliffs, away from the busy west-coast sights. Reaching it takes a long drive and a demanding stair descent. Leave time and energy for the climb back.
Access and current conditions
Ask your driver or accommodation about the road and stairs before leaving. Rain or local work can change access.
If you’re riding a scooter, you need experience on steep, narrow roads. Turn back if the surface or stairs feel beyond your ability.
Tide, waves, and swimming
High tide can leave less sand to sit on. Waves and currents may be strong, and you shouldn’t expect a lifeguard or quick rescue. Check locally and stay out when unsure.
Watch incoming waves while taking photos and keep clear of cliff fall zones.
Facilities and supplies
Bring water, sun protection, food if needed, and small cash. Don’t count on shops, toilets, shade, or mobile data at the beach. Take all rubbish back with you.
Nearby stops
Add Teletubbies Hill or one east-coast viewpoint rather than another demanding beach descent. From Crystal Bay or Toyapakeh, book a driver and allow for the cross-island journey.
Choose your beach
Compare Diamond and Atuh before choosing Suwehan. One long beach descent is usually enough for the day.
