Viewpoint or beach descent

You can enjoy Diamond’s famous view from above. Going down means steep, exposed stairs and a tiring climb back, especially in the heat or crowds.

Wear shoes with grip, bring water, and skip the descent if the stairs look unsuitable for your group.

Visit the east separately

Visit Diamond with Atuh and nearby viewpoints. Choose one beach descent if you want a less tiring day. Keep Kelingking and Broken Beach for another day; combining both coasts leaves too much time in the car.

Water and safety

Diamond faces open-ocean swell. Offshore rocks don’t make it a sheltered swimming beach, and calm-looking water can still have strong currents. Follow local warnings and stay out if you’re unsure.

A larger wave set can reach apparently dry sand, so keep watching the sea even while sitting or taking photos. For a whole day relaxing on the sand, we’d choose Crystal Bay instead. Check the swimming conditions there too.

From Crystal Bay, book an early driver. Mahaloka Valley guests can arrange the trip through the Travel Hub.

Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.

See the dated traffic report before travelling during that period.

  • Visit Penida owner update on fuel queues and hotel transport

Confirmed on 4 October 2026 long Pertamina queues in Banjar Nyuh and Ped during the 4 to 7 October advisory, recommends Sakti/Crystal Bay for quieter stays with easier driver arrangements, and advises leaving accommodation at least two hours before a ticketed Banjar Nyuh boat back to Bali, earlier when necessary. The report does not establish conditions after 7 October.
