We used the sources below. We haven't recorded an on-site check, so ask locally about current access and facilities.
Why hire a driver?
A driver takes care of navigation, parking and the steep roads between stops. You can spend your energy enjoying the island.
You’ll still walk the stairs at the beaches and viewpoints. Pick a few stops and leave time for lunch, water and breaks.
Driver, scooter, or organized tour?
With luggage, children or anyone unsure about riding, use a driver.
What to ask before booking
Get these details in writing:
- Vehicle size, air-conditioning and luggage space.
- Pickup pin, time and finish point.
- Stops and how many hours the price covers.
- Fuel, parking, waiting time and overtime charges.
- Entrance fees and lunch: included or paid separately?
- Seat belts and any child seat you need.
- Deposit, payment and cancellation terms.
Compare the total for the same trip, rather than just the first price quoted.
Tell the driver where you want to go
For a west day, choose Kelingking, Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong. For east, choose Thousand Islands, Diamond and Atuh. Tell the driver which stop matters most, and drop an optional stop if you’re running late.
Drivers near Diamond Beach can be harder to arrange for early or short trips. Book both harbour transfers ahead; see the east-hotel guide.
Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.
Use the map to compare the drives and ask your driver about the roads on the day.
Make the drive comfortable
Use a seat belt and don’t squeeze more passengers into the vehicle than it seats. Tell the driver about motion sickness, children or difficulty walking.
Ask for toilet, lunch and water stops. A full-day booking should give you time to enjoy the places you came to see.
Arrange your driver
The price depends on pickup, vehicle, hours and stops. Get a quote for your trip.
Visit Penida can help arrange a driver through local partners. For Crystal Bay guests, Mahaloka Valley’s Travel Hub can also help. Compare what’s included before paying.

Sources and verification
Check current boat times, prices and conditions before you go.
- Visit Penida owner report on drivers, fuel queues and return transfers
Confirmed on 4 October 2026 that early Diamond Beach pickups are harder to arrange, while Sakti/Crystal Bay drivers are much easier to arrange. Long Pertamina queues in Banjar Nyuh and Ped make those areas poor quiet-stay choices during the 4 to 7 October advisory. Leave accommodation at least two hours before a ticketed Banjar Nyuh departure to Bali, and earlier when conditions or check-in require it. This is owner guidance, not a guaranteed vehicle or transfer time.
