Made confirmed the driver advice, guest request, Jalan Raya Klumpu alternative and Banjar Nyuh/Ped fuel queues on 4 October 2026. This is his booking experience; we haven't measured the journeys or recorded a hotel inspection.
Book your east-side driver early
Stay near Diamond Beach if you want to spend most of your time on the east coast. You’ll have a longer drive to Banjar Nyuh and Kelingking.
Made finds drivers near Diamond Beach harder to book than on the west, especially for early pickups or trips lasting only a few hours. Ask your hotel to confirm the driver, pickup time and contact number before you arrive.
Arrange your arrival pickup
Send your driver the hotel pin, boat company, date and arrival harbour. Banjar Nyuh, Buyuk and Sampalan are different places.
If your boat leaves Sanur at 10:00, your Penida pickup comes after the crossing, docking and bag collection. Agree a meeting point and what to do if the boat is late.
Confirm the vehicle, luggage space, total price and waiting time. Use the private driver checklist before booking.
Why Kelingking before an early boat is too much
One guest asked to leave Sanur at 10:00 on 5 October 2026 and stay near Diamond Beach. The next morning, they wanted a pickup at 06:00 on 6 October, a visit to Kelingking and arrival at the port by 09:00.
Three hours would have to cover the drive across the island, the visit and the drive to the harbour. The requested 09:00 harbour arrival was a target, not a confirmed boat departure time.
The guest then suggested Kelingking on arrival day, with an 11:00 pickup. A 10:00 Sanur sailing doesn’t leave a reliable hour for the crossing, docking and meeting a driver.
Give Kelingking a separate day and go straight to the harbour on departure morning. 3D2N gives you one full day; stay longer for separate west and east days.
Stay on the west for a mixed trip
Sakti or Crystal Bay works well for a west day, beach time and a separate east day. Made finds more drivers available for west-side pickups. Book yours ahead.
Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.
Choose your exact hotel carefully. A house in the Sakti hills may still need a vehicle to reach the beach.
Take Jalan Raya Klumpu for an east day
Made recommends the inland Jalan Raya Klumpu road for a west-to-east sightseeing trip during the fuel queues. It avoids the Banjar Nyuh harbour road. Ask your driver which way to go on your date.
You still need to reach Banjar Nyuh itself if your boat leaves there. See the dated traffic advice.
Keep the return morning for the boat
Go straight from the hotel to the harbour. During the 4 to 7 October 2026 advisory, a drive from the east along the north-coast road can meet two separate fuel queues: Pertamina in Ped, then Banjar Nyuh.
For a Banjar Nyuh boat, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east. A 14:00 sailing means leaving by 12:00 at the latest. Confirm the operator’s check-in deadline and let your driver allow more time for the long drive and both queues.
If you’re running late, call the driver and boat company and drop the sightseeing stop. Don’t ask the driver to rush.
Boat fare and where to stay
Visit Penida lists Sanur to Banjar Nyuh tickets at IDR 150,000/person, one way, arranged through its boat-company partner relationships. This owner-supplied fare was confirmed Oct 4, 2026. Compare both boat directions and booking terms, then confirm the operator, exact sailing, availability, check-in, luggage, and total price before payment.
If you want long days relaxing on the sand, read Diamond Beach vs Crystal Bay before choosing your hotel. Diamond has exposed surf and steep stairs; Crystal Bay is easier for a beach day.

- Visit Penida owner report on east-side transfers
Confirmed limited short-notice east-side driver availability, an anonymous 5 and 6 October 2026 guest request, and the inland Jalan Raya Klumpu route from west to east. The 4 October update also reports long Pertamina queues in Ped as well as Banjar Nyuh, recommends quieter Sakti/Crystal Bay stays with easier driver arrangements during the 4 to 7 October advisory, and sets a minimum accommodation departure two hours before a ticketed Banjar Nyuh boat. Earlier departure may be needed; availability and road conditions require booking-specific confirmation.
