Can you get to Nusa Penida the day you land?

Yes, with a morning or early afternoon flight. Book a fast boat that leaves Sanur at least 3 hours after your flight lands. That covers getting off the plane, immigration, your bags, the drive and checking in at the harbour.

12:00 to 13:0017:00Possible, with little room for delays
After 13:00Next morningStay in Sanur and take an early boat

The last boats from Sanur leave in the afternoon. When we checked on 10 October 2026, Angel Billabong and Waruna Darma had 17:00 departures, El Rey’s last boat left at 15:30 and Maruti’s at 15:00. See the Sanur boat times for every sailing.

A late flight, a long immigration queue or a delayed bag can cost you the boat. If your flight lands after about 13:00, a night in Sanur is the calmer plan.

Fill in the All Indonesia arrival form before you fly. With an e-passport and an electronic visa, you can use the immigration autogates, which take about 25 seconds per person (ANTARA, March 2024). Queues and baggage times still vary by flight, so there’s no reliable “out in 30 minutes” promise.

Arrange your ride before you land:

  • A driver or hotel pickup waits in the arrivals area with your name. Give them your flight number so they can track delays.
  • Grab has a GrabCar pickup point in the international arrivals area. GrabBike can’t collect from the airport.
  • Book the boat and pickup together. If you book your fast boat ticket with Visit Penida, we can add a pickup in Bali. Ask Made whether your arrival time works and about any extra cost before you pay. See the fast boat tickets.

The drive to Sanur Harbour

From the airport, drivers take the Bali Mandara toll road to its Benoa end, then the Bypass north to Sanur. It’s about 14 km and usually 30 to 45 minutes, longer in afternoon traffic.

The toll costs Rp14,000 for a car and only takes e-money cards, not cash. Your driver will normally pay it and add it to the fare.

Cars reach the harbour through one entrance on Jalan Pantai Matahari Terbit. Give your driver the boat company’s name so they can drop you near the right counter. Check in at least 45 to 60 minutes before departure; Maruti closes check-in 30 minutes before.

Leaving from Nusa Dua

Leave your Nusa Dua hotel 1.5 hours before your boat departs. For an 08:00 boat, that’s 06:30. Take the toll road from the Nusa Dua gate north across the bay, leave at Benoa and follow the Bypass to Sanur.

A travel blog estimates 30 to 35 minutes early in the morning and 50 to 60 minutes between 16:00 and 19:00. Resorts inside the Nusa Dua complex may not let app drivers in to collect you, so ask your hotel to book a car or arrange a driver the day before.

Nyepi: no flights or boats for a day

On Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, the airport, terminals and ports close for 24 hours. In 2026 the airport closed from 06:00 on 19 March to 06:00 on 20 March. In 2027 Nyepi falls on 8 March. Don’t plan to fly in or cross to Nusa Penida that day.

Coming back for a flight

The last boats to Sanur leave Nusa Penida at 17:00. Don’t connect a same-day boat to an international flight. Spend your last night in Bali, near the airport or in Sanur, so a delayed boat or rough sea doesn’t cost you the flight.
