A north-coast beach break

Kutampi offers a different sort of beach visit from the high cliffs of Kelingking or Diamond. Indonesia Travel lists it among Nusa Penida’s north-coast beaches. Come for time by the shore and a shorter break while you’re near the town, rather than a remote cliff walk.

The hero photograph records the Kutampi shoreline in 2015, with a large tree and outrigger boats. It identifies the place and its coastal setting; it doesn’t confirm today’s tree, seating, boats or facilities.

Finding the entrance

Ask your driver or accommodation for the current Kutampi beach entrance and where to park. The north-coast road passes businesses and settlements, so a roadside pin isn’t necessarily a public path to the water.

Agree on the pickup before walking away and keep clear of working boats and loading areas. Don’t use a harbour access route as if it were a leisure beach entrance.

What to do on the shore

Bring a towel, sit where the shore is dry and enjoy the view across the water. Take a short walk if the beach edge is open, but don’t cross barriers or private courtyards to continue along the coast.

Look at the surface underfoot before removing your shoes. Sand, stones and the wet shoreline change with the tide. Choose a comfortable spot away from boat activity and watch how far the waves reach.

Food, shops and facilities

Kutampi is useful when you want to combine the shore with nearby town errands. Get drinking water or food before settling in, and carry small cash. Ask the business about any facilities you intend to use rather than assuming a beachside toilet or seat is public.

We haven’t confirmed current opening times, rentals, entry fees or changing rooms at the beach. A short visit is easy to keep flexible if a planned stall is closed.

Before entering the water

Check the sea and ask locally about currents and boat movements. The north coast’s easier arrival doesn’t establish safe swimming. Keep clear of moorings and working boats, and stay out if you don’t have clear advice.

Check the BMKG marine forecast before setting off. You can enjoy a shore break without making it a swimming stop.

Timing and getting back

Fit Kutampi around the part of the island you’re already visiting. Don’t cross the island just to fill an extra gap in an east or west sightseeing checklist. Arrange transport back before staying late, especially if you have a ticketed boat.

If your priority is sunset on a west-coast beach, compare Crystal Bay. If you want a cliff-backed east-coast cove, give Atuh its own time.

Nearby places and a longer stay

Use the Ped stay guide and harbour guide to understand the north coast before choosing accommodation. Staying at least 3D2N leaves room for a beach break between arrival, one full island day and departure.

Take your rubbish with you, keep the shore available for local use and ask permission before photographing people at work.

Questions

Kutampi Beach: common questions

Is Kutampi on the east-coast cliff route? Answer

No. Kutampi is on the north coast, so it works better as a short stop while staying or travelling near the town than as an extra descent on a Diamond day.

Can I count on changing facilities or rentals? Answer

We have not confirmed current beach facilities. Ask at the entrance and use nearby businesses for food or supplies without assuming their toilets, seats or pools are available for public use.
