Before you go

Allow
One full day per side
Crowd pattern
West peaks around late morning day-trip arrivals; east is calmer early but concentrates around Diamond and Atuh.

road
Narrow, hilly roads on both sides. From a west-side hotel, the east needs a longer drive.

Facilities

  • • Facilities are concentrated near major paid viewpoints and beach approaches
  • • Carry water, sun protection, and cash

Choose west for the classic first visit

Visit Kelingking, Broken Beach, and Angel’s Billabong. Add Crystal Bay if you have time, or stay nearby for sunset.

See the west tour guide.

Choose east for Diamond and Atuh

Start early for Diamond Beach, Atuh, and Rumah Pohon. Choose one beach descent so you still have time for lunch and the drive back.

See the east tour guide.

If you want both coasts

4D3N gives you two full days, one for each coast. 5D4N adds a third day for snorkeling.

Traffic advice for 4 to 7 October 2026: Made reported two separate fuel queues: one near Banjar Nyuh and another near the Pertamina station in Ped. Both can delay trips along the north-coast road. For a quiet stay away from these queues, choose Sakti or Crystal Bay and take the inland road for an east day. If you have a boat ticket, leave your accommodation at least two hours before the ticketed departure, or earlier from the east side. Leave time for check-in. Traffic conditions after 7 October 2026 are not confirmed by this report.

See the dated traffic report for that period.

If you only have one day

Choose one coast and a few main stops. Confirm the return boat’s check-in deadline and leave time for the harbour drive. Use the one-day west or one-day east plan.

  • Visit Penida owner confirmation of base and route tradeoffs

Confirmed east-hotel driver constraints, the Sakti and Crystal Bay base recommendation for mixed routes, and Jalan Raya Klumpu as the inland west-to-east alternative on 4 October 2026. The owner also reports long Pertamina queues in Banjar Nyuh and Ped, recommends a quieter Sakti/Crystal Bay base with easier driver arrangements during the 4 to 7 October advisory, and advises leaving accommodation at least two hours before a ticketed Banjar Nyuh boat to Bali. The driver must reconfirm conditions and arrange an earlier pickup when needed.
