Swimming and sea conditions
We used the sources below. We haven't recorded an on-site check, so ask locally about current access and facilities.
Snorkel directly from the beach
Local vendors rent masks, snorkels, fins, and flotation gear on the sand. Check the fit and condition before paying, then ask where to enter that day.
A Manta Point boat trip may leave elsewhere. Confirm its meeting point and transport with the operator.
Current and boat traffic
Stay away from the channel, offshore island, and moving boats. Ask locally about currents before entering. If you start drifting faster than expected, stop and signal for help instead of swimming farther offshore.
Equipment and confidence
Use a mask and fins that fit. Beginners should go with a guide and use suitable flotation. A vest doesn’t make strong current safe, and non-swimmers shouldn’t enter open water just because gear is available.
Look without touching
Keep fins away from coral. Don’t stand on the reef, feed fish, touch animals, or chase them for a photo. Manta rays and mola mola are wild animals, so sightings aren’t guaranteed.
Leave time for the water
Give shore snorkeling a relaxed part of the day rather than squeezing it into a full west tour. If the sea is unsuitable, enjoy the beach instead.
For a Manta boat, see the snorkeling tour guide. Compare the other snorkeling sites before booking.
