Location and food

Artrolling Bistro is on Jl. Ped Buyuk in Batununggul, the town area beside Sampalan and Buyuk harbour. Its official website says it opened in 2014, and pizza is what it’s known for: baked in a brick oven fired with wood, with dough and tomato sauce made every day.

The rest of the menu covers pasta (spaghetti, fusilli and rigatoni with classic Italian sauces), burgers, salads, smoothie bowls and fried rice. There’s an Indonesian side too, including seafood cooked with local herbs and coconut milk, sauteed kangkung, and steamed tofu and tempe.

Vegetarian choices

The official site says it added vegetarian versions of several dishes because guests who don’t eat meat kept asking for them. Look for the vegetarian pizza, the zucchini salad and fried zucchini, and the tofu and tempe dishes. Ask the staff if you need a dish made vegan.

When to visit

Artrolling suits a relaxed dinner if you’re staying in Batununggul or Sampalan, or lunch on a day you’re heading to the east coast. The vintage dining room, with old clocks and recycled materials, is part of the appeal.

When we checked on 13 October 2026, Tripadvisor showed 4.0 out of 5 from 137 reviews and a $ price rating. Recent reviews praise the thin wood-fired crust, the coffee and the friendly staff. Some older ones mention slow service, and a 2023 reviewer noticed loud music from a bar across the road.

Hours and payment

Listed hours disagree. Tripadvisor and MapQuest show 7:30 am to midnight every day, while Trip.com shows an afternoon opening. Check Artrolling’s Instagram or call before you plan breakfast there.

Trip.com lists Visa and American Express, but Tripadvisor’s listing also says “cash only”. Bring rupiah so a missing terminal doesn’t spoil the evening. Our cash and ATM guide explains the options. The official site also mentions delivery orders, so ask whether they deliver to your hotel.

Getting there and home

If you’re staying in Batununggul or Sampalan, this is an easy dinner near your hotel. Ask your hotel whether you can walk or need a short ride.

From Crystal Bay or Toyapakeh, eat closer to your hotel instead. Batununggul is across the island, and you’d ride back at night on roads you may not know. If you do come over, book a driver for the return before you order.

Before you go

  • Check today’s hours, because listings disagree.
  • Bring cash, even if you plan to pay by card.
  • Ask about a table if you’re coming as a group.
