Location and food
Kavana Penida is the restaurant at Mahaloka Valley Resort, on Crystal Bay Street just inland from the beach. Mahaloka lists the resort as about a 10-minute walk from Crystal Bay. The dining area is an open-air pavilion with timber, curtains and shade, set back from the busier beach edge. Independent recommendation; no commercial relationship.
The menu runs all day. For a light start there are fresh juices, coffee and smoothie bowls, and pancakes are on the dessert list. Later you can choose Indonesian classics such as gado gado, nasi campur, chicken satay and fried rice or noodles, or switch to pizza, pasta, tacos, burgers and grilled seafood or steak.
The menu PDF we checked on 13 October 2026 listed most Indonesian dishes at Rp50,000 to Rp85,000, pizzas at Rp85,000 to Rp99,000 and grills at Rp110,000 to Rp175,000. Prices change, so check the current menu before you go.
Vegetarian choices
Vegetarians have real options here: vegetarian fried rice and fried noodles, gado gado with tofu and tempeh, cap cay, a vegetarian pizza and a tempeh burger. Ask the staff if you need a dish without egg or cheese.
When to visit
Breakfast before the beach works well if you’re staying nearby, since the official site lists a 7:30 am opening. It’s also an easy lunch after a morning on the sand, when you want shade and a seat away from the beach.
In the evening, Kavana pitches itself as a cocktail stop that can turn into dinner, with wings, calamari, fries and nachos to share. The listed closing time is 9 pm, so it suits an early dinner rather than a late night.
Getting there and home
If you’re staying below the hill near Crystal Bay, you can walk over and back. Ask the staff or your hotel for the route.
If you’re staying uphill in Sakti, sort out the ride home before you order. The road up from Crystal Bay has no streetlights, which Made Surya confirmed on 6 October 2026, and it’s a difficult scooter ride in the dark if you don’t know it. Book a driver to wait, or head back before dark. From Toyapakeh, Ped or Sampalan, plan a driver for the return too. Our Crystal Bay sunset guide explains the options.
Before you go
- Check the hours on the official website. It lists 7:30 am to 9 pm daily.
- Look at the menu PDF if you want to compare prices.
- Arrange your ride home before dinner if you’re staying uphill or across the island.
